Case of the Month: Riley

13 year old Riley is our February Case of the Month! Riley had a benign fatty lump growing for years with no problems. We attempted to remove the lump last year. However, due to a heart arrhythmia, Riley would've been put at risk and the surgery was put off. This year Riley fell on icy steps. The injury made it difficult for Riley to walk. Dr. Stuart revisited surgery and the mass had to be removed.

After surgery the lump was weighed and it weighed in at 14 1/2 pounds!!!! Surgery was extensive lasting 3 1/2 hours. Due to a large amount of excessive skin and disturbed blood flow, the skin did not heal well, and Riley needed to go back in for a second surgery the following week. She had the incision redone.

She's doing fabulously and is recovering from the surgery, anesthesia and is walking well!!!
